What is vacuum metalizing?
Vacuum metalizing refers to a process of heating a metal in the vacuum chamber, and melting the metal, evaporating, and cooling to form a metal film on the surface of the glass containers. If we need glass jars and bottles have a metallic look, normally we can apply vacuum metalizing to create a layer of metal on the glass jars and bottles. A metal is heated in a vacuum chamber until it begins to evaporate, the vaporized metal then condenses on and bonds to the container, which is being rotated to help ensure uniform application, so the look of solid metal on glass jars and bottles will be presented, vacuum metalizing is available in a variety of colors, it is the best option for achieving an overall shiny, chrome-like look.
Main processes of vacuum metalizing
Tooling We build customized tooling fixture for holding glass containers in place ready for masking
Loading Loading the cleaned glass jars and bottles on the fixtures for base coating
Base Coating Base coating primes the glass jars and bottles so that they can properly receive the metal vapor, base coating improves the adhesive quality of glass containers.
Vacuum Metalizing We vaporize the metal using a filament in the vacuum chamber. This vapor flows in a single direction, which offers the equipment full control over its flow onto the glass containers. The machine rotates glass containers precisely to ensure even deposition of the metal vapor to create a consistent coating thickness.
Top coating Though top coating is not always required, but a top coat can enhance the appearance of glass jars and bottles more shiny, high temperature resistant and better performance of adhesion of metalization.
Quality Inspection All glass jars and bottles with vacuum metalizing will be inspected rigorously according to the quality standard to ensure they meet or exceed the specific requirement.
